What is Microblading?

Microblading is a specialized technique of semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing intended to create natural-looking brows. The process utilizes a tool with tiny needles to manually apply hair-like strokes to the brow area and deposit pigment below the skin. Microblading can be a good option for patients of any skin tone or hair color, and can even be used for those with significant hair loss due to alopecia or other issues.

The Microblading Procedure 

The first step in your microblading procedure is to define the ideal shape for your eyebrows. Your microblading specialist will refer to your natural brow shape, face shape, and personal aesthetic preferences to create a shape that meets your goal results. Numbing cream can also be applied to keep you comfortable throughout the process. To complete the microblading, tiny, superficial cuts are made in the treatment area using the microblading tool. The pigment will be deposited simultaneously so it can sink into the small, hairlike strokes in the skin. Most clients find that microblading feels similar to threading the eyebrows, and may even be more comfortable in comparison. The sensation is usually described as mildly irritating and like a small scratch. On average, microblading procedures can be completed in about one to two hours. 

What to Expect After Microblading 

Immediately after microblading, your brows will appear darker than your intended results. As the brows heal, they will gradually appear lighter and more natural. You can expect some slight swelling, redness, or scabbing for about one week after the procedure. 

As your eyebrows heal, you should regularly wash them using antibacterial soap. Your microblading specialist will advise you to apply a moisturizing ointment on the brows daily and avoid getting them wet or sweaty as they heal; this helps to prevent infection. Avoid direct sunlight as much as possible for about four weeks after the procedure, and do not sleep on your stomach for about ten days. 

Microblading requires about six weeks to be considered completely healed. After this time has passed, you may require a short touch-up appointment to ensure you achieve your intended results.

Is Microblading Permanent?

Microblading is semi-permanent. On average, your microblading results will last about one to three years. Clients with oilier skin types typically see their results subside fastest. Touch ups can be performed once per year, or more often as needed, to keep up your results long-term.

How long does microblading last?

Microblading lasts anywhere between 1-3 years depending on the persons skin type and brow goals.

Is microblading painful?

Microblading is moderately painful. A topical numbing cream is applied to help aid with pain management and a secondary numbing is used throughout the process for client comfort.

Is microblading the same as an eyebrow tattoo?

No, microblading is considered a semi-permanent tattoo because it does not go as deep in the dermis as a permanent tattoo.

Do I still need to pluck eyebrows after microblading?

It is highly recommended to continue shaping around your microblading to keep the appearance clean and neat.

How long after microblading can I shower?

Avoid getting your eyebrows wet for 10 days for maximum results.

Should I shave my eyebrows before microblading?

No. You should leave eyebrows in their natural state prior to your appointment. The more hair the better for the artist.

What helps microblading heal faster?

There are a number of factors that help heal your microblading faster. A complete aftercare kit will be given to you following your first session.

How many sessions is microblading?

Microblading is broken down into 2 sessions. After your initial appointment, a touch up is required 6 weeks after to perfect any areas that didnt heal fully. Once your touch up is complete, a color boost is recommended every 1-2 years to maintain the brow color and shape.

How long does microblading take to heal?

You can go back to your normal eyebrow routine after 10 days for the best results.

Who should get microblading?

Good candidates for microblading are those who want darker, fuller-looking brows for a long time who are also willing to undergo some restrictions as the pigmentation takes effect.
