Plasma Pen

In the past, surgical treatments such as a facelift or blepharoplasty were the only options in successfully tightening the skin as collagen production slows and fine lines and wrinkles set in. Today, new technologies make it possible to achieve rejuvenated and youthful skin without incisions or extended downtime. The Plasma Pen is one such option. This versatile treatment can be used for common aging signs like crow’s feet, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, or crepey texture as well as concerns like acne scars or stretch marks. Plasma Pen treatment is available at Nouveau Health & Wellness in Palm Beach, FL.

What is the Plasma Pen?

The Plasma Pen is a non-invasive skin tightening and rejuvenating device. It is FDA approved and uses a technique known as fibroblast therapy to stimulate new collagen production, resulting in firmer, refreshed, and more youthful looking skin. Plasma Pen works by converting electric energy into gaseous diatomic molecular nitrogen, or plasma, which is directed to the skin’s surface without making direct contact. This creates micro-trauma in the skin’s surface while heating deeper layers to stimulate the natural healing process and collagen production.

Good Candidates for Plasma Pen

Plasma Pen is best for candidates who have light to medium skin tones and are concerned about hyperpigmentation, skin laxity, or lines and wrinkles. The treatment is a good option for signs of aging in multiple areas of the face and body. In addition to aging signs, Plasma Pen can be used to treat acne scars or stretchmarks.

The Plasma Pen Procedure

The Plasma Pen procedure is not painful, but can be performed using a topical anesthetic. Most patients describe a tingling sensation through the treatment. The Plasma Pen procedure involves directing the plasma energy to the treatment area using the small, pen-like device. This can be completed quickly. Only one Plasma Pen session is required for most patients to achieve their intended results; for some, your provider may recommend follow-up treatments.

What to Expect After Plasma Pen Treatment

Plasma Pen recovery is minimal, but you can expect symptoms including redness, swelling, or scabbing after your treatment. These can last for up to 10 days. Despite these side effects, downtime is not required and you can return to all of your normal activities immediately after Plasma Pen treatment. However, it is common for Plasma Pen patients to plan some social downtime due to visible side effects. Your provider will give you instructions for skincare following treatment, and you should avoid direct sun exposure as much as possible.

Some skin tightening is immediately visible after Plasma Pen treatment, and results will continue to improve as new collagen is developed. Most will see their results continue to develop and improve for about three months after the treatment.

Plasma Pen results typically last about three years, but can last longer for some patients and may even be permanent. Your provider can help explain reasonable expectations for your results during a consultation.
